Happy Valley - Festival Walk
6 km. (3.7 miles) rated easy, or 10 km. (6.2 miles) rated moderate.
Happy Valley is a community in the eastern part of the Portland Metropolitan Area. It contains both residential and natural areas.
The 6 km. walk is on sidewalks through residential neighborhoods, then on a boardwalk through wetlands, and on gravel, dirt, and wood chip paths past duck ponds and through green spaces.
The 10 km. walk is through forested areas, along Mt. Scott Creek, and uphill three blocks to an area with outstanding views, then downhill through nature areas. Hiking boots are recommended. Carry water.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 4:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in the area to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Happy Valley on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 10 a.m. at the start point, the Happy Valley Park at 13770 SE Ridgecrest Road, Happy Valley. The registration area will be at the shelter by the playground at the rear of the park.
