Brooks - Hosted Peonies, Hostas, and More Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
The 5 km. walk starts in the beautiful landscaped Adelman Garden with many different flower species and trees, then goes on grassy paths between the long rows of peonies of all different colors in the fields. The 10 km. walk continues through a forested area to the Sebright Garden with another beautiful garden of many different flower species plus a large greenhouse with hostas of all types. Both gardens have displays of bouquets and a place to buy or place orders for flowers.
Carpools will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the parking lot of the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, and return there about 3:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Salem or Albany to have lunch together on the way back; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Brooks on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at 10 a.m. at the start point, the Adelman Peony Farm, 5390 Brookdale Road NE, just east of Brooks. Or, they may choose to do the walk on their own, starting from the peony farm anytime between 9 a.m. and noon.
